Little effect on tax
A new law that some said would have a major impact on the city’s one-cent tax has apparently had very little.
With five days remaining in the month of June, the Mississippi Department of Revenue (MDOR) told the Sun that it had brought in 90 percent of what had been collected in previous months.
The tax went into effect in March.
“We’re already over $1 million. The gloom and doom is not quite there,” said MDOR spokeswoman Kathy Waterbury.
