Madison County could have own judicial district if approved by Legislature
MADISON COUNTY and Rankin County might not have to share circuit judges after elections this fall, depending on the outcome of judicial redistricting in the state Legislature.
District 74 Rep. Mark Baker said he would introduce a bill to provide more chancery and circuit judges for the two fast-growing counties, and possibly another district attorney on the circuit side, but it’s far from certain how district lines will be redrawn.
Currently, Madison County is in a chancery district with Leake, Holmes and Yazoo counties. Two judges serve the whole area.
