My first job meant more than a paycheck
For more than a half-century, when you motored north on I-55, you saw a group of squat, buff-colored two-story buildings on your right just before the Meadowbrook Road exit. Built in the 1950s, these were the “new’” homes of the Mississippi School for the Deaf and the Mississippi School for the Blind.
Some years ago, the institutions relocated to tonier Eastover Drive, leaving the old buildings sitting empty and overgrown. Now they are gone.
