New system for metro area will feature texting 911; launching in November
Residents in Hinds and Madison counties will soon have a new way to get in touch with first responders during an emergency.
The counties are planning to implement “next generation” technology. The technology will allow residents to contact 911 via text.
“They are starting construction (on the equipment) now and it will likely be in place in November,” said Ricky Moore, emergency management director with Hinds County.
