Thalia Mara ticket surcharge is a bad way to fund renovations
The city of Jackson’s hasty decision to implement a five-dollar surcharge on ticket sales at Thalia Mara Hall is, simply put, a bad idea.
In November, the city council approved placing a $5 fee on all tickets sold at the hall once it reopens this summer.
Proponents of the fee say the surcharge is needed to help pay for hall renovations. Thalia Mara was closed this month so millions in repairs to the aging facility could get under way.
