Public meeting scheduled August 22 on plans to amend gating ordinance

Northsiders will have a chance to sound off later this month on plans to amend the city of Jackson’s gating ordinance.

A public meeting is slated for Tuesday, August 22 at 5:30 p.m. to discuss changes to the rules allowing public access gates.

The meeting will be held at Jackson City Hall in council chambers.

Millage increase

The Southwest Madison fire district is about to see a change in millage. Recently, the Madison County Board of Supervisors approved an increased millage of four mills.

Court denies R’land request

Opponents of the Ridgeland Costco Wholesale scored a minor victory recently in their efforts to keep the wholesaler from locating on Highland Colony Parkway.

Last week, the Mississippi Supreme Court denied the city of Ridgeland’s request to expedite the appeal of the city’s 2015 vote to amend the zoning ordinance.

Watters honored for contributions

Betti Watters was the recipient of the 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association of Social Workers, Mississippi Chapter.

This award goes to Mississippi NASW members who have made significant contributions to the field of professional social work throughout their professional careers in Mississippi.
