Joseph Adams received the 2016-2017 Herschel Brickell scholarship. This award is given to a Jackson Academy sophomore who possesses excellent personal qualities, appreciates the values and goals of the US founding fathers and shows interest in the study of history and government.

Logan Thomas received Jackson Academy’s 2017 Scott Branning Memorial Scholarship, which is given to a student who displays love for the school, personal integrity, respect for and sensitivity to others, and tenacity in dealing with the circumstances of life.

Court denies R’land request

Opponents of the Ridgeland Costco Wholesale scored a minor victory recently in their efforts to keep the wholesaler from locating on Highland Colony Parkway.

Last week, the Mississippi Supreme Court denied the city of Ridgeland’s request to expedite the appeal of the city’s 2015 vote to amend the zoning ordinance.

Watters honored for contributions

Betti Watters was the recipient of the 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association of Social Workers, Mississippi Chapter.

This award goes to Mississippi NASW members who have made significant contributions to the field of professional social work throughout their professional careers in Mississippi.

A local neighborhood group has scrapped plans to use a former home on Old Canton Road for an event and office space, and is now looking for a new location.

The LeFleur East House, a two-story home at 4658 Old Canton, has been deeded to James Holt Crews, of Jackson, according to Hinds County Chancery Clerk records.
