Madison County supervisors recently made plans for a $12 million bond issue.

The funds will be used on a number of different road projects in the county.

According to county engineer Rudy Warnock, the projects will be complete by December 31 of this year.

Among the projects included in the $12 million bond issue are Gluckstadt Road, Park Place Boulevard, Calhoun Station Parkway, Reunion Parkway phase three and Reunion Interchange.

Warnock said, “Gluckstadt Road from I-55 going back west to Bozeman Road is one of our projects. Another project is Park Place Boulevard which goes from Highland Colony Parkway to Highway 463. Another project is Calhoun Station Parkway phase two, which goes from the Nissan South interchange to south of Gluckstadt Road.”

With Reunion Parkway phase three, the funding will cover a specific type of cost.

Warnock said, “The other one is Reunion Parkway phase three, and Reunion Interchange. The funding for Reunion Parkway strictly relates to clearing and grubbing to be performed this summer.”

For the Reunion Interchange, funding is also specific.

“The funding for the interchange is to pay for the preliminary engineering, the final engineering, all the surveying and all the geotechnical investigation, so all the upfront costs,” said Warnock.

Reunion Parkway has been under construction, and recentl weather conditions have caused a change in the date of completion for Madison County’s Reunion Parkway

According to Madison County Administrator Donnie Caughman, “The last report I had from the county’s engineer on this project was that rainy weather had pushed the completion date back.”

Delays have also been caused by a problem with the placement of asphalt.

Caughman said, “The contractor placed too much asphalt in a section that has to be milled and repaved.”

Another issue deals with a traffic light. According to Caughman, there is an issue with the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) concerning a permit for a traffic light at the intersection of Reunion and Highway 463.

Despite complications and delays, Caughman is confident that the second phase of the parkway should be completed by the first of May as long as there are no more complications.

Phase two construction will make the road travel east from Highway 463 at Annandale to Madison Station Elementary School.

The existing portion of the roadway was completed during phase one, according to Madison County Supervisor Andy Taggart. This roadway travels east from Madison Station Elementary School to Bozeman Road.

The Reunion Parkway will eventually be a four-lane east-west corridor between Mississippi 463 and U.S. 51 in the future, similar to the Highland Colony Parkway.

Plans are to extend Reunion Parkway to Green Oak Lane north of the city limits of Madison, with a new interchange at I-55.

This will eventually reduce traffic congestion at the I-55 interchanges with Highway 463 in Madison and Gluckstadt Road.

It will have four lanes with a divided median and curbs and gutters. The five mile project is estimated to cost $30 million including the Interstate 55 interchange.

Officials have said that the ultimate goal for the roadway is a divided, four lane boulevard all the way from Highway 463 in the west to Highway 51 in the east.

Madison County Board of Supervisors President Andy Taggart has previously said of the roadway, “That should provide a great deal of traffic relief for both Bozeman Road and Highway 463, as people will be able to cut across from the east to get to the middle school, and from the west to get to the elementary school.”
