Mr. and Mrs. Gaines Peacock Sturdivant announce the engagement of their daughter, Adair Catherine Sturdivant, to Daniel Paul Bard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Zimmerman Bard.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mike P. Sturdivant of Glendora, and Dr. and Mrs. J.S. Herring Jr of Saluda, N.C. A graduate of Asheville School, Miss Sturdivant earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Furman University, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

The prospective bridegroom is the grandson of Dr. and Mrs. David S. Bard of Little Rock, Maryln Scoal of Orange Park, Fla., and Mr. and Mrs. Francis C. O’Brien of Reading, Mass. He is a graduate of Charlotte Christian School and attended University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox.

The couple will exchange vows January 16 in St. Simons Island, Ga.
