Carlson, Simmons say vows in Hawaii garden

Carissa Rose Carlson and William Edward Simmons were married at Moli’i Gardens on Oahu, Hawaii December 28 at 4 p.m. with Bill Blair officiating the ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Dann and Sherilyn Carlson of Kailua, Hawaii. She is the granddaughter of Lois Shafer of Manassas, Va., and the late Ben Shafer, and Lou Carlson of Palm Coast, Fla. and the late Donn Carlson.

She is a 2011 graduate of Alexander M. Patch American High School in Stuttgart, Germany. She was graduated from Baylor University in 2015. She is a corps teacher with Teach for America Hawaii and pursuing her master’s in education at Johns Hopkins University.

The bridegroom is the son of Ed and Julia Simmons of Ridgeland, and the late Marian Phillips Simmons. He is the grandson of Ann Phillips of Jackson, Tenn., Roger and Rosemary Phillips of Orlando, Sam and Peggy Simmons of Florence, and Charles and Marida Coghlan of Benoit.

He is a 2011 graduate of St. Andrew’s Episcopal School and a 2015 graduate of Baylor University. He is associated with Hawaii Alliance for Community Based Economic Development in Honolulu.
