Garraway, Owen wed in Oxford ceremony

Katherine Love Garraway and James Alston Owen, Junior were united in marriage January 7, at 6:30 p.m. at The Jefferson Oxford in Oxford. The ceremony was officiated by the Rev. Chuck Poole.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick West Garraway Jr. of Jackson. The bridegroom is the son of Mary Margaret Owen of Jackson, Tenn. and the late James Alston Owen.

Escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore a white gown with French three-dimensional lace bodice over a fit to flare silk crepe skirt with a chapel train. She wore a flared, ballet style tulle overskirt. The veil worn by the bride was edged with cotton threadwork and embroidery to form an organic motif of vines and leaves along the edge of tulle. She carried a hand-tied bouquet of hydrangeas, patience garden roses, moonstone roses, freesia, lilac, sweet peas, and hyacinths. The stems were exposed and bound with a silk ribbon with the bride’s maiden initial stitched on it.

 

Maid of honor was the bride’s sister, Mary Hastings Garraway. Bridesmaids were Sarah Elizabeth Benefield, Sara Frances Chisholm, Haley Ann Davis, Katherine Puckett Ginn, Kelly Laurel Green, Bethany Mahaffey Haggard, MacKenzie Drew Hannon, Laurel Shelby Lackey, Ann Margaret Owen, Alexandra Anne Phillips, Anne McCaslin Snow, and Lauren Hiatt Van Kirk. The bride’s cousins, Charlotte Lowry Hellwig, Kathryn Jane Hellwig, Lauren Elizabeth Love, Caroline Millsaps Trotter, and Eliza DuBose Trotter were the flower girls.

They wore a silver satin high neckline gown with a gathered chiffon skirt. They carried gathered bouquets of hydrangeas, hyacinths, pearl roses, freesia, lisianthus, and spray roses. The flower girls wore heirloom dresses made of white batiste and silk ribbon. They carried antique silver baskets filled with white rose petals.

 

The bridegroom’s grandfathers Chester Moore Dixon, and Charlie C. Owen Jr. were the best men. Groomsmen were Edwin Walter Barnett Jr., Taylor Bradford Borne, Thomas Baker Borne, Frederick West Garraway III, Nash Ellis Gilmore, Austin Michael Harrison, William Wilks Hayden, Richard Leroy Heyer III, Jack McCammon Owen, Neal Jerome Quirk Jr., Joel Raymond Reeves, Brett Lee Stoots, and Clayton Duncan Wammack. Ushers were Colter Lute Albritton, Robert Arrington Coffin, Alex Michael Edwards, and James Berlin McAdams III.

Ring bearers were James Sanford Love V, Charles Adams McMillan, cousins of the bride. A scripture was read by Catherine Sullivan Joyner. Blake Hunter Aston, Caroline Phillips Garraway, Kendall Marie Garraway, Eliza Maria McMillan, Hayes Watson McMillan, Wallace Edward McMillan II, and Rebecca Blackmon Parker greeted the guests as they arrived.

 

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a reception at The Jefferson. The Party Jammers provided the music.

On the eve of the wedding the bridegroom’s mother hosted a rehearsal dinner at City Grocery on The Square in Oxford. The rehearsal dinner was followed by a post toast party at Lenora’s, hosted by the bride’s paternal aunts, uncles, and her late grandmother. The day before the wedding a bridesmaid luncheon was hosted at The Oxford Train Depot. The afternoon of the wedding an out of town brunch was thrown at The Coop at The Graduate.

Following a wedding trip to Antigua the couple lives in Washington, D.C.
