Ordinance amended

Ridgeland’s zoning ordinance has been changed to allow an indoor shooting range.

After a public hearing that was held at city hall on Tuesday, September 19, the mayor and board of aldermen unanimously approved the zoning ordinance amendment.

County approves budget

Madison County has finalized their budget for the 2018 fiscal year, which begins October 1. County officials have set a budget of approximately $86 million, $13 million more than last year’s $73 million.

The budget was approved 3-1, with District 2 Supervisor Trey Baxter opposing. District 5 Supervisor Paul Griffin was absent.

Deason new MCEDA director

Joseph (Joey) Deason is the new executive director of the Madison County Economic Development Authority (MCEDA) beginning October 1.
Deason assumes the position from Ken Oilschlager who has been serving as interim director over the last year.

The Jackson Police Department received the following reports for:

Cedar Hill Drive, 1000 block, house burglary, September 12;

County Cork Road, 5700 block, larceny, September 16;

County Line Road, 1100 block east, auto burglary, September 15;

Punitive damages sought against Tulane University over Madison closure


After Tulane University’s abrupt closure in January of this year in Madison, the city is demanding $10 million in punitive damages.

The funds, according to Madison Mayor Mary Hawkins Butler, will cover hard construction costs, used city resources, and damages to Madison’s reputation and economic development credibility.
