John Evans, book store founder and owner, was a recent speaker at the Rotary Club of Jackson. Evans talked about small business and how book stores fit in.

Doc of the day

Dr. Shawn McKinney, a breast surgeon at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, served as Legislative Doctor of the Day at the Capitol recently. In that capacity, Dr. McKinney was available to provide emergency medical treatment to lawmakers and critical staff. Dr. McKinney (left) is shown with Sen.

Joy in childhood

Friends of Children’s Hospital benefiting Batson Children’s Hospital was recently awarded a $10,000 grant from the Joy in Childhood Foundation, which raises funds to support partnerships with children’s hospitals, food banks, and nonprofit organizations directly committed to serving sick and hungry kids.

Scott Waller

Scott Waller, IOM, has been selected to serve as President and CEO of the board of directors of the Mississippi Economic Council. Waller, who has been with at MEC for more than 11 years, spent the last eight months as interim president and CEO. He and his wife Kim live in Madison.

Heart of a Lion

Each year, the Madison Lions Club recognizes a member of the local community that shows “Lion Like” character, but is not currently a member of the Lions Club, which is the world’s largest service organization.  The award recipient epitomizes the Lions motto of “We Serve”.

Dr. Dobrivoje Stokic

Dr. Dobrivoje Stokic, administrative director for research at Methodist Rehabilitation Center, has been recognized as an Elite Reviewer for the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Rotary projects

Amanda Fontaine, immediate past District 6820 Governor, spoke to the Rotary Club of North Jackson recently about the work of the Rotary Foundation and projects at the local and global levels to address clean water, literacy, and polio.
