Pine Cone

Special to the Sun

Pine Cone gift shop is celebrating its 35th year in business with a big “thank you” to our customers. Owner since 1999, Molly Hughes says, “We have customers that have shopped with us since our first location, Oak Place Shopping Center, in 1982. These same customers have followed us to four other locations over the years.”

Pine Cone’s newest home is in Deville Plaza.

Molly and her daughter, Hope Lovelace, appreciate the loyalty of customers to their small business. With the internet at everyone’s fingertips it’s easy to stay at home and shop. Pine Cone strives to provide a friendly, fun shopping experience with a personal touch. Molly and Hope search to find unique gifts for every occasion. The best part is, you can find a gift under $20 and have it gift wrapped at no charge.

“We hope our customer service is what keeps customers coming back,” says Hughes. Interestingly, Pine Cone has a large customer base of men shopping alone and men who bring in their children to shop for mom. “We want boyfriends, husbands, dads, and kids to feel just as welcomed and comfortable shopping with us as their spouses and moms,” says Hughes. Peter’s Pottery and Ronaldo Jewelry are favorites of these special shoppers. The snazzy gift wrap is always a hit.

Molly has been with Pine Cone since ‘83 and Hope since ‘93. The mother/daughter duo respects each other’s ideas and visions for the shop. “We have had a pretty smooth time working together every day for over 20 years,” they both say with a smile. Family business can have its challenges, but Hughes and Lovelace seem to conquer those well. They enjoy buying together several times a year at Dallas and Atlanta markets. Buying “Made in Mississippi “is important to Hughes and Lovelace as well. Peter’s Pottery is Pine Cone’s most popular Mississippi product. Brides love to come in and register for several colors of Peter’s Pottery. Pine Cone carries the largest selection of Peter’s in the area. Shipments arrive monthly to keep all Peter’s best sellers in stock.

Pine Cone is known for its seasonal decor as well. Fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas ... to Valentines, Mardi Gras, and Easter ... you can always find that perfect something to make the occasion more festive. Gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, house warmings, weddings, bridal and baby showers, or “just because,” can all be found at Pine Cone. Gift wrap is always free of charge. Lovelace says, “we make it fun, happy, serious, or simple ... whatever the occasion calls for.”

Pine Cone is open Monday-Friday 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Pine Cone is closed on Sundays. Hughes and Lovelace believe Sunday is for church, family, and rest.

“Thank you, thank you to all of y’all that make the effort to come in and shop with us,” says Lovelace. “We want to continue to be your one stop gift shop.”
