Mississippi blues marathon attracting runners from all states, seven countries

Northsider Rob Oates has run marathons across the country, including the Boston Marathon.

However, his favorite race is right here in his back yard, the Mississippi Blues Marathon.

This Saturday, Oates hopes to compete in his 10th race.

Madison Landing Upgrades

Major upgrades are under way at Madison Landing, and work should be complete by this July.

Pearl River Valley Water Supply District (PRV) officials have been working to get new breakwaters for the landing.







Recyling working in county despite removal of two bins; some use door-to-door service

Madison County’s new recycling system is still working well for a portion of its citizens living outside city limits.

In July of last year, supervisors voted to take away two of the three recycling dumpsters located at the Southwest fire district station, the Yandell Road fire station and the Stribling Road fire station.

District 25 Sen. Walter Michel hopes the fourth time will be the charm when it comes to seeing a “neighborhood improvement district” bill passed.

The Northside senator is planning to introduce a bill creating the NIDs in the 2018 session.

Court denies R’land request

Opponents of the Ridgeland Costco Wholesale scored a minor victory recently in their efforts to keep the wholesaler from locating on Highland Colony Parkway.

Last week, the Mississippi Supreme Court denied the city of Ridgeland’s request to expedite the appeal of the city’s 2015 vote to amend the zoning ordinance.
