Luther G. Beaver Jr.

Services were held August 26 at Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church for Luther Galloway Beaver Jr. Luther, 82, died August 22 at St. Dominic's with family by his side.

He was born in Jackson, the son of the late Ruth Watkins Beaver and Luther Galloway Beaver Sr. on September 26, 1934.

Luther attended Jackson public schools, where he was a football standout at Central High School. After graduating from Mississippi State University, he joined Beaver Brothers Furniture Co. in downtown Jackson. He had a longtime career with Irby Construction Co. working on projects across the country. After retiring and moving to the farm, Sonny enjoyed being a cattleman, tree farmer and playing on his bulldozers and tractors.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jane, and daughters, Lisa Smith and husband Keith of Fountain, Colo., Celia Bowman and husband Charles of Jackson, and Frances Deason and husband Tony of Florence; grandchildren, Audrey Smith, Will Smith, Anna Smith, Charles Bowman, Percy Moore and Brantley Moore. He also leaves behind his brother, Charles Beaver, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
