Madison has seen a lot of commercial and residential development over the past two years. However, residential construction and development dropped in 2017 compared to 2016.
The opposite can be said for commercial development.
A new partnership between the capital city and federal and state law enforcement has led to the indictment of 24 dangerous criminals.
The partnership is called Project EJECT, or “Empower Jackson Expel Crime Together.”
U.S. Attorney for the Southern District Mike Hurst began the program in October, and announced it in December.

Traffic lights at two major Northside intersections will likely be malfunctioning for at least another week, according to city of Jackson officials.
Last week, lights were out at the intersections of Old Canton Road and Ridgewood Road, and Briarwood Drive and the I-55 North exit ramp.

Northsider Rob Oates has run marathons across the country, including the Boston Marathon.
However, his favorite race is right here in his back yard, the Mississippi Blues Marathon.
This Saturday, Oates hopes to compete in his 10th race.
Dick Hall is transportation commissioner for the Central District of Mississippi. He recently spoke to Sun Senior Staff Writer Anthony Warren about the state’s transportation needs, as well as transportation-related bills being considered by the state legislature.
Work on a much anticipated project to improve one of the Northside’s busiest thoroughfares is expected to get under way early next month.
Weather permitting, work on the North State Street Reconstruction Project is expected to begin in about two weeks.
